Look Who Came to Chinglish Dinner

After 6 very intense work weeks, I find myself recouping through mostly sleep and food. Getting back on stage again has been exhausting and rejuvenating, reminding me just how much I love, hate, adore, need and am constantly challenged by the acting process. At the top of each night’s performance, I sit off stage and sync myself up with the humans filling up our six hundred seat theatre. Each night’s audience has a different personality and they seem to gravitate to different jokes, different ideas and it’s like a one night stand, each night.

Now that we’re in our run which has recently been extended…! One of my new loves is bonding with my Chinglish cast mates. I not only love them, I also like them. A lot.

How can one resist these loonies?

Austin Ku‘s Mom came this past week and served up a homemade Chinese dinner to kick off the weekend.

This steamed egg and pork dish reminds me of home. Austin’s Mom added mushrooms. My Mom used to make this when I was a kid. I’d come home from school and this would be in the rice steamer waiting for consumption.

Cast mate Brian Nishii made this himself. He said this dish is really hard to make from scratch. Prepping the roe is time consuming. I stole two of these.

Mr. Obama also made an appearance. Albeit, he looked a little different from his meeting with Mr. Eastwood.

I think he enjoyed our get together a little more.
